DESCRIPTION
This is a beautiful, very gently used, one owner, 1968 model Ludwig Hollywood 5-piece drumset that recently came into our shop on trade. Purchased brand-new at a local music store by their one and only previous owner, these drums feature a Sparkling Red Pearl wrapped finish, chrome hardware, clear interiors, Keystone badges, and original reso heads. All drums are in excellent overall condition for their age and show only a few age-appropriate nicks and dings. Included are 8x12" and 9x13" mounted toms, 16x16" floor tom, 14x22" bass drum, 5x14" LM400 Supraphonic snare drum, hardware package (two cymbal stands, hi-hat stand, snare stand, throne, and pedal), a few nostalgic accessories (drum key, tom bracket wrench, brushes, and mallets), and a set of well worn handmade cloth cases.

8x12" MOUNTED TOM

Keystone badge is secure. Badge number is 600177.
Clear (unpainted) interior is very clean. Date stamped APR 1 1968.
Shell is in-round with no warping and no signs of exposure to moisture.
Re-rings are secure. No notable ply separation.
Sparkling Red Pearl wrap is tight. Seam is secure.
Color is bright and vivid with no signs of fading or discoloration.
There are a few age-appropriate scuffs, scratches, and dings on the exterior surface.
Internal muffler is complete and operates smoothly.
Batter side bearing edge has one significant ding that is mostly on the outer edge (see closeup pic). Head still seems to seat well. Otherwise, bearing edges are in good condition.
All hardware (lugs, hoops, backing screws, tom mount, muffler, etc) appears to be original and is very clean with only a few typical scuffs and dings. The only exception is one tension rod and a few tension rod washers, which we replaced.
Batter head is a new Remo Coated Ambassador. Reso head is the original Ludwig-branded model with scuffs and scratches but no stick marks.

16x16" FLOOR TOM

14x22" BASS DRUM

Keystone badge is secure. Badge number is 598321.
Clear (unpainted) interior is very clean. Date stamped APR 9 1968.
Shell is in-round with no warping and no signs of exposure to moisture.
Re-rings are secure. No notable ply separation.
Sparkling Red Pearl wrap is tight. Seam is secure.
Color is bright and vivid with no signs of fading or discoloration.
There are a few age-appropriate scuffs, scratches, and dings on the exterior surface, especially on the top.
Bearing edges are in good condition.
Most of the hardware (lugs, T-rods, claws, backing screws, spurs, spur mounts) appears to be original and is very clean with only a few typical scuffs and dings. The only exception is the double-tom arm and mounting bracket. Their different style leads us to believe that they were likely replaced at some point. We also replaced the rubber spur tips and several T-rod washers.
Wood hoops are structurally sound and intact but have typical scuffs and dings in the black paint. Three of the four stapled inlay seams are secure. The one seam that had come slightly loose was secured with a small piece of double-sided tape.
Batter head is a Ludwig-branded single-ply smooth white head that appears to have replaced sometime in the 1970s. Audience-side head appears to be original.

5x14" LM400 SUPRAPHONIC SNARE DRUM

Keystone badge is secure. Badge number is 608274.
Interior is very clean. Date stamped MAR 18 1968.
Shell is in-round with no signs of exposure to moisture.
Chrome finish is very clean with only light surface scuffs. No signs of pitting or corrosion.
Internal muffler is complete and operates smoothly.
Bearing edges are in good condition.
All hardware (lugs, hoops, backing screws, strainer, butt, tension rods, etc) appears to be original and is very clean with only a few typical scuffs and scratches. The only exception is that we replaced the original snare cords and wires with a newer Ludwig 20-strand set.
Batter head is a new Remo Coated Ambassador. Snareside head is the original Ludwig-branded model in excellent condition.

HARDWARE PACKAGE

Spur-lock "Big Beat" hi-hat stand has typical scuffs and scratches but no signs of rust or corrosion. It is fully functional. Note that the wing screws that hold the foot-plate rod in place have bent "wings" (see closeup pic). We replaced the rubber feet.
Two flat-base cymbal stands have typical scuffs and scratches but no signs of rust or corrosion. All parts appear to be original (including the rubber feet) with the exception of the felts and sleeves, which we have replaced.
Atlas snare stand has typical scuffs and scratches but no signs of rust or corrosion. It is fully functional. Note that on the hand screw which tightens the grip of the snare basket, one of the extended rods is missing (see closeup pic).
Unbranded, period-correct throne has typical scuffs and scratches but no signs of rust or corrosion. It is missing the rubber feet on the two back legs and one of its upholstery tacks. Please note we are unable to adjust the height without a great deal of force. Likely the tubes are slightly bent with age.
Speed King pedal has typical scuffs and scratches but is very clean and fully functional.

ACCESSORIES AND CASES

Ludwig drum key and tom bracket wrench are in good condition.
Retractable #191 brushes (originally purchased with the drumset) no longer fully extend and are likely not usable.
Mallets (originally purchased with the drumset) are in fair condition. One of them has tape along the entire length of its handle, so it may be cracked.
Handmade cloth cases with snap enclosures show lots of wear and fading, but they are in fair condition. The two mounted tom cases and the floor tom case fit well and are fully intact. The bass drum case is too small to comfortably accommodate the bass drum and it has a broken handle. The snare drum case - which is simply a square bag - is fully intact and may have also been use to transport cymbals. The hardware bag is fully intact.
