THE BACK STORY
Here's the backstory of this fantastic offering: For years, the original owner of Vaughncraft allowed that if his employees paid for the wood, they could use the shop equipment after hours to make solid one-ply drum shells for their own use. This set of drums came from such a fellow who thought to start his own drum company, Guerrero Drum Co. While a few drums were produced under that name almost 20 years ago, the company didn't really get off the ground so it's no surprise that you likely haven't heard of these.
Mr. Guerrero made this set of Cocobolo drums for his own personal use in his home; the set in this listing is outstanding! Tube Lugs, diecast hoops, suspension mounts, proper edges, and steam-bent 1-ply solid Cocobolo drum shells -- this kit was top-of-the-line in 2009 and was very well made. While there are a few 1-ply solid Cocobolo snares out there (compare: Black Swamp's $2,899.00 MS6514CBD, Artisan 6.5x14 from '09 and the Montineri 8x14 from '14 at Drum Center of Portsmouth, the Stanbridge 5.25x14 from '05... these all point to a few high-end, respected makers using 1-ply solid Cocobolo steam-bent shells) yet I've never seen nor heard of any drumsets made out of this stuff. Hi there! I'm Derek from TreeHouse Custom Drums / Supersonic Music, and I want to go over some points about this set with you. These drums were made right. I've had several <<you-did-it-yourself?>> drums come into the shop over the years, but very few have been excellent -- often edges edges need re-cut, snare beds are too deep, hardware is mis-positioned, or just the overall design is off -- yet these drums are among the best. Here's what I saw:
Below is info on each drum. All sizes mentioned are depth x diameter in inches. All drums feature one-ply 3/8" matching Cocobolo reinforcing rings and chrome hardware. All heads are new, current version Evans 360 models, unplayed. All drums have new black nylon washers under tension rods as well new nylon washers under lug nodes. All hardware has been de-installed from the shells, inspected, cleaned, lubricated and properly re-installed.
10 x 12 MOUNTED TOM
2-piece, 5/16" thick shell with 45° inner and "softened 45°" outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1" tall. 6-lug drum (12 single-ended tube lugs total) with Pearl Mastercast diecast hoops and RIMS-style suspension ring with DW bracket. 1/2" threaded air vent with Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Clear Evans G2 batter over clear G1 reso heads.
10 x 13 MOUNTED TOM
2-piece, 5/16" thick shell with 45° inner and "softened 45°" outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1" tall. 8-lug drum (16 single-ended tube lugs total) with diecast hoops and RIMS-style suspension ring with DW bracket. There is very slight chipping of the chrome in one area on the bottom hoop facing the player. ½" threaded air vent with Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Clear Evans G2 batter over clear G1 reso heads.
14 1/2 x 16 FLOOR TOM
2-piece, 3/8" thick shell with 45° inner and "softened 45°" outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1" tall. 8-lug drum (16 single-ended tube lugs total) with Pearl Mastercast diecast hoops and full ring-style suspension ring with 3 floor tom leg brackets on plates attached to the ring. 1/2" threaded air vent with Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Clear Evans G2 batter over clear G1 reso heads. There are a few places of checking on the shell, that is, some very minor pulling away of the grain around some of the figuring on the exterior of the shell. This in no way penetrates the shell, buzzes, nor is suspect to increase, but rather an effect that can come about during the bending process of one-ply shells. These minor cosmetic blemishes might be seen by some as character of the wood and the process (the camp I'm in), while others might call this a cosmetic "b-stock" shell. I say it's minor because while you can feel it, you can't really see it since it occurs with the grain.
16 5/8 x 22 BASS DRUM
2-piece, 3/8" thick shell with 45° inner and heavily rounded outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1 1/2" tall. 10-lug drum (20 single-ended tube lugs total) with matching one-ply solid Cocobolo bass drum hoops. Diecast claws and folding spurs finish out the hardware. 1/2" threaded air vent with Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Clear Evans EMAD over black EQ reso head with mic port.
7 x 14 SNARE DRUM
1-piece, 5/16" thick shell with 45° inner and heavily rounded outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1" tall. 10-lug drum (10 double-ended tube lugs total) with Gibraltar diecast hoops and Raw Aluminum finish Trick GS007 MultiStep Strainer as well matching butt with new 16-strand German Wire snare wires. 1/2" threaded air vent with Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Evans Genera Dry batter over clear 300 snare side heads. Note: this drum originally came with brass hardware which I updated to new chrome Gibraltar diecast hoops, tension rods, tube lugs, and threaded air vent in order to match the other drums.
5 1/2 x 12 SNARE DRUM
3-piece, 5/16" thick shell with 45° inner and "softened 45°" outer bearing edges. Re-rings are 1" tall. 6-lug drum (6 double-ended tube lugs total) with diecast hoops and Raw Aluminum finish Trick GS007 MultiStep Strainer as well matching butt with new 16-strand German Wire snare wires. 1/2" threaded air vent without Guerrero Drum Co. round badge. Evans Genera Dry batter over clear 300 snare side heads.

Here's what I saw:
- All of the bearing edges are spot on with no damage or issues
- Hole placement was right. If you've ever tuned drums with tube lugs and diecast hoops, any misalignment makes this rod hard to turn while that one is easy, or worse, they squeek because something's out of alignment. The lugs on these drums all line up just right with no splaying or canting.
- Cosmetic condition is 9+ outta 10. While the metal is clean, there are a few small scratches in the finish of the wood on the drums on this 18ish-year-old used drumset, but the only one I saw that went through the finish is where the pedal meets the bass hoop (see photo).
- The finish on the drums is an unknown glossy clearcoat, applied, sanded, and buffed admirably on the exteriors. While apart, I waxed and buffed all drum exteriors as well the bass hoops. However, there are some minimal runs in a few places on the interiors and on the bass drum hoops. None of the cosmetic blemishes on the wood can be seen from several feet away and I'd call them minor overall.
