A Little Bit about Who We Are
Supersonic Music started in September 1998 when the store's owner, Derek Sharp (D#), bought a music store he had managed on west 6th Ave. A couple of years later, Supersonic moved to Topeka's ever-growing Downtown District, and that year bought the Lawrence location of that business he had managed, started a 10-year run operating a handdrum booth at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, and started TreeHouse Custom Drums -- the year 2000 was very busy! Since 2009, the upstairs of the Downtown Topeka location has contained the online operation of Supersonic Music while TreeHouse kept growing in the Drumgeon, as well the lesson program in the 6 teaching studios have gained traction. Besides selling guitars, drums and PA gear, the repair bench, especially the guitar bench, has continued to grow.
Fast Forward to 2020: the Lawrence location finished its move 60 feet south from its original location in Downtown Lawrence to a great new space almost twice the size, TreeHouse Custom Drums has customers in 6 continents and nearly every state in the US, the guitar repair bench has outgrown its space and has relocated in the building to a bigger space, and the store has expanded to include more PA gear, recording gear, and digital pianos & keyboards.
For all its quirkiness, Supersonic Music is steeped in honesty, honor and integrity. All the staff are mighty decent folks who are real. No slick salesmanship or annoying elitism. Whether you buy a $2.50 part or an $8,000.00 rig, we'll respect and/or tease you just the same. In an era where the mom-n-pop shops are thinning out, Supersonic Music continues to grow and invites you to stop by the next chance you get!
